Hannah Update

I love, love, love waking up on Saturday mornings.  It helps that Hannah slept from 10 until 5 and then again until 8!!  I am starting to feel like myself again!

Speaking of Hannah, known this month as “Hannah Bean” or more often as “Beaner”, she gained an entire pound during her growth spurt last week.  She’s now inching her way, or should I say ouncing her way, towards 12 pounds!  Her smiles are still the highlight of each day, though she does make us work for them.  We are learning that she thrives on attention, just like… umm, well both of her parents.

Overall, she is continually getting better.  We are seeing tangible progress, for sure.  We have occasional setbacks, which are always discouraging, but for every setback, we also see growth.  Since putting her on the Zantac, she has only vomited once whereas she was vomiting daily.  She is still on a laxative, an antibiotic and probiotic, gas drops, and the special formula but we hopeful to be able to wean her off some or all of these as she continually improves.  We also finally settled on a pediatrician that I love!  It is a bit of a drive, but well worth it, considering she spent 45 minutes with us, thus equalling the total sum of time the last pediatrician spent with us over the last three months!

It seems as if the doctors, mostly the GI team at Children’s Mercy, still don’t know entirely what has caused or is causing her digestive problems.  Therefore, they are actively treating the symptoms.  We know that she will outgrow this and though we are satisfied with that prognosis, we are also still contending for breakthrough now.

Man, if I had only known how refining this whole parenting thing would be….

OK, I still would have done it anways.  Hannah is the absolute best thing that has ever happened to us.

  1. WOW to the new pediatrician, or maybe I actually mean WOW to how little time the last one spent with you, that’s unbelievable even for a baby who doesn’t have health concerns. Great peds are a treasure, for sure. Glad you found one you love!

Parenthood is indeed refining. I’ve often said it’s the biggest self-improvement project I’ve ever attempted. My kids force me to be a better person every day.

Love your updates, keep on growing, Hanna Bean!

  2. You are a great mom! What a wonderful update- I love reading your blog! Praying for a full healing for Hannah.
